A Brief History Of The Mojito
July 14, 20215 Common Tequila Myths Debunked
August 19, 2021Yes, you can make a hot toddy with rum, and no, it doesn’t have to be boring. Here are four of our favourites to keep you cosy this winter:
The Classic Hot Toddy
The soothing blend of honey and spicy rum provides a chill-busting, mood-boosting power cocktail, all with very basic ingredients most would have at home.
Ingredients:
30ml Havana Club 3yr
15ml honey
1 slice lemon
1 cinnamon stick (or ½ tsp of ground cinnamon powder)
A squeeze of lemon juice
Boiling water
Method
In a latte glass or mug (heat resistant), add the rum, honey, cinnamon stick and lemon juice. Top up with hot water and stir thoroughly. Add more lemon or honey to taste and garnish with a slice of lemon.
The Spicy Apple Cousin
This potent one is all sugar and spice for a whole lotta nice… sweet and spice. It’s also as simple as you like. Which we like.
Ingredients:
45ml Sailor Jerry Spiced Rum
120ml Apple cider
Lemon juice
1 tbsp sugar
t tsp cinnamon
Method
Rim the glass by pouring the lemon juice into a shallow container and dipping the rim of the glass into it. Shake off the excess and then dip the rim of your glass into a mixture of sugar and cinnamon. Pour all rum and cider into the glass, along with a squeeze of lemon juice. Stir thoroughly.
The Pineapple and Rum Powerhouse
This modern toddy is soothing, satisfying, and even has some nutritional benefits. When the temperature drops, this is what you need to mix. Pronto.
Ingredients:
150ml pineapple juice
240ml water
25ml honey
90ml Havana Club 3yr
120ml Ginger ale
2 cinnamon sticks
Pinch of cinnamon
Pinch of nutmeg
Method:
Pour the honey, water, pineapple juice, ginger ale and rum into a small pot. Place on a stove, and simmer until the honey has dissolved. Add in the spice and cinnamon sticks and simmer for another about three minutes. Pour into a tall, heat-resistant glass and enjoy.
Hot Buttered Rum
A hearty old favourite. This recipe serves four.
Ingredients:
1 cup Sailor Jerry Spice Rum
¼ cup unsalted butter,
¼ cup of sugar (or low carb sweetener of your choice)
½ teaspoon of ground nutmeg,
1 tsp ground cinnamon,
2 cups of water and salt to taste.
Method:
Pour everything but the rum into a pan and slowly bring to a boil. As soon as it does, reduce the heat to simmer and give it a good whisk for about five minutes. Removing from the heat, mix in the rum and serve!
